This two-part work, consisting of a textile and metal sculpture and a tapestry, reflects the intricate relationship between power and myth. The textile sculpture, inspired by the Cappenberger Head, created in the 12th century on the commission of Emperor Barbarossa and possibly portraying him, explores familiar symbols of power and reinterprets them. Instead of narrating the story of an individual whose visage is chiseled in gold, the textile head and the five hybrid beings allude to the blurring of boundaries, especially between human and animal. These beings could serve as a metaphor for the 'Other,' a concept historically projected onto those who did not conform to the white and male norm. The tapestry, a medium that historically conveyed visual narratives of powerful figures and historical events during the Middle Ages, incorporates the stories of these hybrid beings. Through the skillful blending of colors and shapes, it conveys not only the complexity of these narratives but also the fragility of power depicted through them. These mystical creatures elude clear categorization. Their presence in the work allows for the exploration of different perspectives and realities.
