The multimedia installation "Triad of Motherhood" appropriates classical depictions of women and reinterprets them on its own terms. The tripartite structure of the artwork, complemented by its ornate embellishments, conjures the visual presence of a triptych. However, instead of featuring religious icons, the installation showcases three video works, each depicting heavily pregnant women in various costumes. Each of these videos incorporates different allusions to classical representations of women, encompassing the holy Mary, Venus, forest nymphs, and comic heroines. The genesis of this artwork stems from the aspiration to reclaim these portrayals of women and to establish a domain where "femininity," "pregnancy," and "motherhood" can be autonomously defined and empowered.
The work was exhibited as part of the "Myths of Mothers and Other Monsters" exhibition at L6 Kunsthaus Freiburg. The exhibition evolved from a longstanding collaboration with the M.A.R.S. collective (Maternal Artistic Research Studio). It was conceptualized by M.A.R.S. and brought to fruition in collaboration with curators Hanna Weber and Sascia Bailer.
